Why did Greig decide to design a new type of umbrella?
Because every time someone opened their umbrella the blunt of the umbrella would hit his head.
What is the history of the umbrella given in the text?
It said that it was made years ago for cover people from the sun with paper and then the chinese people found new material and used it to cover people from rain.
What new features did Greig design on the umbrella?
The new features the Greig added to his new umbrella were a blunt tips inside pockets, double struts and a floating rib.
What is the name of Greig’s umbrella and why did he call it that?
He called his umbrella a Blunt umbrella because it didn't have points to poke his eyes.
How did Greig test the umbrella?
He went to One Tree Hill with his umbrella on a windy storm and it went very well.
How does Greig’s work impact the world?
It impact’s the world very much because it helps people with saving money.

Richard is a Virologist. Richard works at ESR.
What does Richard do for his job?
Richard studies viruses. When your sample arrives he tests it and see’s what's its made of.
How does Richard stay safe when he is working?
He puts on a long smock to stop the germs from coming on to his clothes and a pair of gloves.
How does Richard’s work impact the world?
He stops viruses and make sure no one has got that virus.
How did Richard become a scientist?
His dad bought him a chemistry kit. He played with it for days until he wanted to become a scientist.
What different science subjects was Richard interested in as a child?
The different science subject Richard was interested in Chemistry.
Why does Richard love being a scientist?
He loves being a scientist because he likes to discover things and helping people out.

Weekly Reflection

Weekly Reflection

This week was an AWESOME week. This week I have blogged heaps and finished of most of my work. On Thursday was an fundraiser for the year 8 camp. Our school sold Chop seuy. It was 5 dollar for regular and 7 dollar for large. Our teacher Miss Aireen and her cousin helped to cook the Chop suey. We also had another fun time doing Technology and Performing Arts. At the end of the day we raised 500 dollars. The Chop suey was so yum. I got the large one because I was very hungry. When I got home I was so full.

This is a Inquiry Research that I have done with my friends William and Lauren. Our group

How many New Zealanders died in the war?
Over 18,000 New Zealand soldiers were killed in the First World War.


How many New Zealanders signed up for the war?
100,000 New Zealand men signed up to fight for their Country in the First World War.


How long did it take to dig up a trench?
The guidelines for British trench construction stated that it would take 450 men 6 hours (at night) to complete 250 m (275 yd) of front-line trench system. "


How many people were in ww1?
More than 65 million men from 30 countries fought in WWI. Nearly 10 million died.


Were new weapons invented?
Many new weapons were invented or first used during World War 1.


How did allies send messages over to each other?
Pigeons were also used during the war. About 500,000 pigeons were regularly dropped into enemy lines by parachute, and then sent back with messages.


How many lied about there ages?
Officially a British soldier had to be 19 years old to serve overseas but many lied about their age. About 250,000 under-age boys served.


Are there any ANZACS still alive?
The last surviving ANZAC, Alec Campbell, died on May 16, 2002.


WHEN DID THE ANZACS GO TO GALLIPOLI?
After four months of training in Egypt, the ANZAC troops left for Gallipoli.


How many ANZACS died on the Gallipoli peninsula?
More than 11,000 ANZACs died on the Gallipoli Peninsula, despite only being there for 8 months.


What was the most powerful weapon in World War 1?
The best weapon use in World War 1 is the machine gun because it’s stabilized the front and caused massive losses on both sides.

Book Review Script



SCRIPT:
(Sam:) Hey Kini, have you read this book called the Desert Kaupoi By an author called Ariana Tikao.

(Kini:) Not yet. What is it about?

(Sam:) It’s about a man called Tony who fought in WW1 who was the leader of an Maori choir. This man join the maori battalion to fight for his country. Although some were saying bad things about him he sorted it out.

(Kini:) Sounds cool!

(Sam:)  It is. It also includes true pictures in the book that relate to the text and the time of WW1. It give you ideas of what was happening in the past.

(Cypress:) Sup Kini. What book are you talking about?
(Kini:) Its a book called The Desert Kaupoi, Sam was just going to show me it.

(Cypress:) I’m guessing it is set in the desert.

(Sam:) Sure is, take a look.. (open book).

(Cypress:) Wooh! Thats what you call a book, it’s sure is historical.. look at the pictures..

(Kini:) This book has heaps of detail in it.

(Sam:) You bet ya.

(They start reading the book together)

(Sam:) The best thing about this book is that Tony got the military cross for his action when he came back from the war.

(Cypress:) Yeah that was awesome!

(KIni:) I agree!

(Tionee:) Hey sam what are you reading.

(Sam:) Oh no, I’m off.

(Tionee:) Umm.. he’s a busy person...

(Kini and Cypress:) .. Us too, laters.

Self Description


My name is Kini and I am 11 turning 12 this year on April. I was born in Middlemore Hospital on 2002. I have curly hair and brown skin. I am a proud Tongan. I like to play sports, watch actions movies and I like to watch rugby league and rugby union. I hate to come school but I have. School is cool and sometimes boring because I always have to stay inside.


In my family there are 4 people. Me, My sister, My mum and my dad.
My sister goes to One Tree Hill College. This is her first year of college. She always wakes up early everyday to go to school. My mum is a good cook. She cooks yum food for me and sometimes takes for long to cook and I get very hungry. My dad goes to work everyday, He works at Gerard Roofs. He makes roofs for other places in New Zealand. My dad is also a good cook. He cooks very yum Tongan foods.


I am a full Tongan but born in New Zealand. I love my country because people from Tonga are nice and kind just like my nana. Tonga is a little country in the southern hemisphere. Since Tonga is a small country they have a small population compared to New Zealand. They have 119,009 in Tonga. Tonga is a nice country even though I have not been there I am going to go there at the end of this year.


When I grow up I would like to be a professional rugby league. I would also like to play for the Warriors in the NRL. I would also like to play for Tonga’s rugby league team the the rugby league world cup to represent who I am am where my family is from. I hope I make it to rugby league and have a successful life in the future.
