Manaiakalani Film Festival 2012 School is Cool

In Term 2 we were learning a lot about movie magic, and how movies can influence our world. We created many movies. We started by brainstorming key messages we could include in our movies.

We also made a movie that explains how to plant kumara. It was really fun to do. We created this movie to inspire people to learn how to grow their own kumara.

Our movie for The Manaiakalani Film Festival is called 'School Is Cool'. We made it to share all of the cool learning and fun that we have at school.

Our movie was also shown at the Tamaki Primary Academy Awards. We created a PMI about Movie Magic and shared what we liked, what was challenging and interesting.

Tsunami

One bright sunny day in Rarotonga there were three boys named Sione,Sau and Sam. They were  at the beach lying down in the flaming sun so they could get a tan. They could hear the nice splashy waves and the leaves on the palm trees moving swiftly in the air.Sione was a very handsome, good boy who always gets dressed in his best clothes. As for Sau, he has a silly and smart personality. Just like Sione, Sau also dressed in trendy clothes. Sam is a quiet boy who likes to get dressed in black and yellow clothes. All three boys were best friends.

After they were lying down on the sand Sione asked “Sam Do you want to have a game of rugby league...you two against me”Sione thought he was going to win.”Yes”spoke Sam .They started the game Sione kicked to Sau and Sam. Sam got the ball and ran straight up to Sione as fast as Usain Bolt. When he got closer Sione formed a humongous tackle on Sam,Sam offloaded the ball to Sau,Sau was jogging to the try line because he knew that he would score a try.Sam shouted and said “Yay”because Sau scored and they won. After the fun a big earthquake hit  Rarotonga.Sau Screamed “Help, help, help”. Then it stopped Sau was crying,He was very unhappy.Sam yelled “Look Sione as enormous wave is coming towards us”.They were looking for the closest mountain so they could sprint to it. The closest mountain was one hundred meters away. They sprinted like they were at the olympics running the  one hundred meter race. They finally got there. The tsunami just hit the mountain.

When the tsunami finished there were no food,no houses and nearly everyone died in Rarotonga. Sione,Sau and Sam were looking for someone to play with they saw no one. They did not eat for three days. While they were walking they walked past a cave they looked inside the cave if there were any food. Then they walked past a fresh fruit plantation. They opened the door to the fresh fruit plantation. There were all sorts of fruit like apples, oranges, pears, watermelon and plenty more. They also saw a big bowl, they put heaps and heaps of fruit inside the bowl. Two weeks later they sold their fruit at the beach so they can buy more TSUNAMI food and meat.

San,Sam and Sione learnt to not worry just be happy because there will always be a solution to their problems.

Minus
What challenges did you have with this unit?
  • Waiting for our turn to film because there was only one flip-cam and a tripod.
  • We had some groups using the same filming location so we had to wait for them to finish filming and sometimes it ment we couldn't film because they were taking too long. For example the staff room, corridor, reading room etc.
  • We couldn’t film sometimes as some students were away and the weather was not too good as well.
  • Memorising our lines for our scripts.
Interesting
What interested you about this unit?
  • The editing process.
  • Adding sound effects and music to our movies.
  • Learning how professional film makers make movies and trying to develop their skills throughout the process of our film making experience.
  • Learning the movie elements helped us to make our movies interesting to watch!
  •
  • Solution
How could we improve on this unit next time.
  •   More flip-cams and tripods.
  • Have the Imovie programme on our netbooks so that we could edit our movies instead of waiting for a group to finish.

The lost boy

WALT write a narrative story based on our artwork.

Once there was a lost lonely boy that had very short hair he was wearing black t-shirt and white pants,he was an orphan and was only four years old. He was at the beach. He was hot.The little boy wanted to go on the berserk massive water slide in private beach in America. It was a very hot day that he wanted to go down the waterslide.

Suddenly he felt a little earthquake,it took for long and he got scared. Then it suddenly stopped. He said,’’That was weird”.
Then the earthquake stopped. After that he saw two Tsunamis coming at once it was very small. It turned bigger and bigger and came closer and closer. He shouted AAAHHHHHH. Then he saw  the two waves coming, it turned into two enormous  tsunamis.

The tsunami stopped and nearly four hundred people died. The ambulance took the little boy inside the ambelance. They drove to a safe spot .They took to the docter. They were running as fast as possible. Finally they got there, then they started to pushed his chest down. They pushed for the first three times nothing happened, then they pushed eighteen more times. After that all the water came out of his mouth.
